A great, spacious indoor playground for a couple of hours (a former underground bomb shelter, so nicely cool), with a tube slide, a roller slide, air-powered foam-ball shooters and plenty of room to run and jump, nice helpful staff, free for adults and under-1s, right by the tram

A little hard to find; you lug the slide tubes up yourself; best for ~3-8s

A well-known circus school in Suvilahti (in a historic building with good facilities) teaching circus disciplines to 1400+ students aged 2 to 60, from beginner acrobatics and juggling to advanced handstands, pair-acro and gymnastics, with a great atmosphere, open stages and student shows; ~2km east

Equipment is well-used; a very active young child may want more challenge

A fantastic climbing centre and home to the highest climbing wall in Finland (up to 29m), with beginners able to climb safely on 14 auto-belay walls up to 12m, a good variety of routes, a bouldering cave and overhangs, a snack bar and a sauna, cheap weekday-daytime tickets; ~3km west

Routes renewed only ~twice a year; the boulder area can get crowded; grades 7b+ need a lead card

The biggest bouldering hall many climbers know — 7 sectors over 4-5 floors with everything from slab to overhang and comp-style routes (5A to 8A), a top-floor gym, frequent fresh route-setting, decent coffee and friendly staff, both kids and dogs allowed, right by the metro in REDI mall; ~2km east

Can be hard to find inside the mall; boulder-only (no ropes)

Reckoned to be the best indoor skatepark in Finland, with a great mix of street and transition suitable for many skill levels, cheap and open all hours; ~9km east

A well-built free skatepark (built 2006, still in great condition) with a playful, not-too-hard bowl and a few street options, granite blocks with sharp edges, good for skate, scooter and BMX, a good warm-up spot or place to hang out; ~2km northwest

Flatground is a little rough in places; better for scooters/teens than technical skateboarding

Some ramps need a bit of TLC; a few older kids can be rough
