    Leave enough time between mini-golf starts (it can back up); can get busy

    A bright, clean and spacious indoor play centre kids love (especially on a rainy day), with a good toddler area and an older-kids area, comfy seating for parents and hard-working staff who keep it spotless; ~4km west

    Food service can be very slow when busy (consider bringing your own); staff manner can vary; book ahead at weekends

    A decent-sized indoor play area with a good frame for older children and a dedicated under-4s area, fair prices, a café for parents and friendly professional staff, a fun safe place for kids; ~12km east

    Poor ventilation — it gets hot and humid at busy times; no bringing your own food; closed Tue-Thu

  4. Piccolo Play VillagePlay cafe

    A wonderful, very clean role-play play village laid out to encourage imagination, with themed rooms, a lovely safe area for non-walkers, warm welcoming staff, brilliant coffee and hot chocolate, and easy parking on the 3rd floor of the shopping centre; ~6km west

    Booked in timed blocks (the area is cleaned between sessions)

    A big inflatable and ninja-obstacle park that's brilliant fun for kids and great for birthday parties, with well-stocked party rooms, attentive helpful staff who keep checking in, and a free return pass with parties; ~8km east

    Closed Mon-Wed; book ahead; younger kids do better in the first (quieter) time slot

  2. Awesome Walls CorkClimbing

    A brilliant, friendly climbing facility with youth climbing and a weekend 'School of Rock' kids love, patient kind helpful instructors, walls that change often to stay fresh, a great atmosphere and nice coffee and cakes, welcoming to new climbers; ~4km west

    One of the best skateparks around, well-maintained and set in a beautiful spot with a river walk and outdoor exercise machines, plenty of seating for parents and food trucks across the road, good for young and old; ~10km south

    An absolute gem of a circus centre with a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere, talented passionate instructors and top-notch facilities with good safety measures, classes for all skill levels (aerial hoop and more) and something exciting for kids and adults alike; ~2km east

  5. Cork Skate ParkSkate / BMX / roller

    A well-used central skatepark by the River Lee for skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and bikes, a good spot to practise; ~1km west

    Mostly used by teenagers — less suited to very young kids; outdoor

    A lovely, creative paint-your-own-pottery studio with a big and growing choice of pieces, a friendly calm atmosphere and a great central setup, perfect for a family day, a girly night or a birthday, recommended for all ages and skill levels; ~2km southeast

    Pieces are collected a couple of weeks later after firing; closed Mondays

    A gem of a central pottery studio where Karina runs welcoming, informative and fun 2-hour ceramics classes at great value (~€20 with clay, equipment and glazes included), good for all skill levels and children, with fast firing turnaround; ~1km north

    Organisation/attention can be uneven at busy times; closed weekends

    An amazing baby-and-toddler music class where Mairéad is a brilliant, warm facilitator who makes everyone feel welcome and included, with a clear structure and flow, colourful props and real developmental benefit (language, sharing, music), treasured by families; ~3km southeast

    An exceptional, hugely kid-oriented open farm easily worth a full day, where the entry ticket includes a barrel ride, truck ride, go-karting and playgrounds, plus petting times, pig racing, storytelling, sing-songs, homemade ice cream and a great-value café, with incredibly helpful friendly staff; ~25km east

    A drive from the city; busy at seasonal events (Santa, etc.)

  2. Tír na Sí FarmPetting farm

    A brilliant working farm with an animal trail you can pet along (buggy-friendly), an outdoor playground, an amazing clean indoor soft-play with tables right beside it, a picnic area and a café with top-notch food (stone-oven pizza), plus optional crazy golf, road-train and carriage rides, great for birthday parties; ~15km north

    Playground best for over-4s; open Fri-Sat only
