    The 0-3 area cleanliness/smell can be an issue; gets crowded at weekends with birthday parties; a 10 NOK coin is needed for lockers

    Strict rules (no phones in the pool area); signage mostly in Norwegian; discounted early-morning entry

    Changing rooms and showers are small; hosts events and competitions

    A central outdoor skatepark and activity plaza with a cool variety of features, open all hours

    Worn and a bit run down (some slips and sharp edges in the transitions), few ramps; better for older kids/teens than under-10s

    A surprisingly big and tall climbing hall with two large rooms of 18m routes, a room of shorter routes, 7 auto-belay stations, a good bouldering space, a Moonboard, a spray wall and a training area, friendly qualified staff, nice for beginners, kids and advanced climbers alike; ~3km north

    No dedicated family/kids room; limited space to hang out while not climbing

    Weekday daytime office hours; closed weekends; register via the school

    A lovely central boutique and creative studio full of locally hand-made Nordic souvenirs (ceramics, sweets, art, clothing) that also runs clay/ceramics courses and Clay & Sip events, warmly reviewed

    Closed Sundays; a shop-with-workshop rather than a drop-in play studio

    A brilliant, charming family-run mini-zoo farm a stone's throw from Tromsø with a nice variety of well-cared-for animals (even emus inside the Arctic Circle!) that love cuddles — scratch a pig's back or a donkey's head — run by the warmest people; ~11km south

    Open Sundays only (contact them even if it looks closed); ~150 NOK/person

  2. Widding GårdPetting farm

    A beautiful farm with friendly people where you're well received, given a tour and allowed to hold the animals, plus a roadside stall of very fresh free-range eggs and local produce; ~9km south

    Mostly a working farm/farm shop — best to arrange a visit; weekday hours are short (mornings)
